Precision Wood Spiral Drill
These unusual spiral bits for wood from Star-M in Japan have a very smooth surface and a deep chip groove. The combination allows for very clean holes and excellent chip clearance.
Because these bits are so precisely machined, spurs are not needed, and would in fact reduce the performance of these bits, especially as they became dull.
This can happen very quickly too, as the edge spurs are the most vulnerable parts of a drill bit. The cutting edge is ground on a slight diagonal in order to allow the bit to smoothly enter the wood and reduce jerking and tearout around the edges of the hole.
These bits also feature a size graduation in 0.1 mm between 2 mm and 8 mm diameters.
We have 5.6 mm + 5.7 mm in stock. We would be happy to make you an offer for other sizes.
This makes them ideal for the most precise wood work. These intermediate sized bits are also very useful when a slightly smaller or larger diameter hole is needed, for instance;
mounting a wheel on a dowel fixed in wooden sides as in a pulley; or for a very tight fit for dowels forming a joint. They are made in High Speed Steel hardened to 63 HRC! The shaft diameter is always the same as the drill diameter. You can thus use almost the entire length of the bit for drilling, only leaving enough shaft in the drill chuck to hold it firmly.
